*October Photo Assignment*

Shoot Where You Live!

Go outside your house, apartment or hovel and shoot where you live!  Spend time discovering things you never noticed.  Take time to look and see the world you live in every day in a new way, shoot any subject you like, make a single blog post out of it, and post a link in the comments.  It’s that easy. Our favorite entry (as determined by our judges) will win their choice of three great prizes from B&H!

Be creative, be cool, show us something we wouldn’t expect to be just outside your front door.

I had been kicking this idea around for awhile. So as a last minute attempt to make the deadline, I pulled out the ladder, called my friend Jeanie to come stand as still as possible and hoped the wind wouldn't blow out the candle. Most of the light on her is from the streetlight. Canon 7D. ISO 2500. 10mm f.4 at .4 sec. I liked the contrast of the houses and the heavens. Seemed fitting. http://amberthompsonphotography.blogspot.com/2011/10/shoot-for-love-utah-photographer.html It was so nice to just shoot for love instead of work and to shoot "things" rather than people. I had so much fun and really have a ton more than this but these were my favorites. Thanks for this opportunity!

i would have loved to participate in this but i just joined today... definitely next time! i'm enjoying your work immensely Jake.

I was thinking about the "Shoot for Love" contest when I clicked the shutter on this one. Sometimes love can be a bit like this beautiful rose stem! The sun was setting and throwing some really nice light on this rose in my back yard. This little critter crawled out from behind a peddle just before I clicked the shutter. Guess he didn't want to miss a photo op. Shot with my Canon EOS 50D and 50mm f/1.8 prime ISO 160 Shutter 1/500 Aperture f/1.8 Post processing in Adobe Photoshop CS5 Camera RAW

My oldest son had just grabbed a handful of leaves and was getting ready to toss them in the air when I clicked the shutter on this one. Shot on my Canon EOS 50D and 50mm f/1.8 prime lens ISO 640 Shutter 1/400 Aperture f/5.6 Post processing in Adobe Photoshop CS5 Camera RAW

Well, I wasn't about to miss the opportunity for a photoshoot and this is one of the results. Shot these in and around my house, two of these were pre - conceived and the other was just something creative and abstract I noticed outside my front door - nature's own canvas... http://geraldmartins.blogspot.com/2011/10/shoot-for-love-october-photo-assignment.html

http://natalieperkinstaylor.blogspot.com/2011/10/my-flawless-sister.html We walked across the road for this shot. She came to my house, wanting to borrow a pair of pants and we ended up doing a spur of the moment photo shoot. Sometimes I think those pictures always turn out best. I used my canon 30d with my 50mm lens. My shutter speed was 200 and the aperture was at 3.2 I wanted the picture to look clear and so focused that you wouldn't want to take your eyes off of the subject.

I shot these in my backyard and my model is also "part of the vicinity".. my 4-year old daughter! Watching her play/dance in her surroundings was my inspiration. I wrote a short caption under each shot with all the "geek" info for those who may be interested . http://www.jadore-photography.com/Client/Other/Shoot-for-Love

This is my entry! Even though it's not eligible for the grand prize it's still fun! I decided to start shooting in and around my house a lot more this summer and these are the results. http://www.jakegarn.com/shoot-where-you-live/

Shot these the other morning in my backyard, after the first real storm of the month. I was inspired by all the tiny translucent orbs and bright, even light. Little things, damp but enhanced. I'm glad this little collection of photos fits for this photo assignment! I used a Cannon A1 film camera. Posted to my personal blog, instead of my photography blog. This set was a bit more personal to me. http://liannathoughts.blogspot.com/2011/10/morning-rain.html

I shot these last night across the street from my studio here in Rexburg, ID. My model lives in the apartment above the studio and we decided to get together for some fall fashion shots. (i dont sleep at the studio, but according to my wife, since i spend most of my time there i may as well ;) It was getting dark and i didnt want to lug my AB800 and vagabond ii battery pack around for this quick session, so i opted for my 580exii and umbrella kit. I really like the premise of this assignment, and i think finding new ways to interpret our surroundings is key to growing as a photographer and expanding our vision. The last frames are a bit more Garn inspired. its been a crazy wedding season so it was great to just get out and do something fun. http://josh.innov8studio.com/?p=411
